So you won't believe what happened today. I hardly believe it myself. I was following my normal daily routine of walking to work, and it was a beautiful morning and everyone was happy. On my way a random woman walked by me and said "you look so cute pregnant!" And so now I'm all feeling great and like "awww, this is going to be a great day!" Right. So I pop into the Starbucks on the corner of Adam and Wells, and the reason I'm pin-pointing the exact location is to forwarn all those consumers that work in this vicinity.
I walk in and the barista says "what are you having hun?" And I order a SHORT coffee. She yells back "decaf?" And I respond "No, regular." Then she replies back louder and firmer "you mean DECAF" and rolls her eyes down to my belly. Huh. I laugh it off and say "gotta have my caffeine you know, and a short is only like SIX ounces." So then the cashier starts chatting me up about when I'm due, etc and the lady gets my drink. I head up to my office, sit down in my chair, take a sip of my coffee and sure enough THIS is NOT REGULAR. And don't question my knowledge on knowing the difference between the 2. I drank my first cup of joe at the ripe age of 12, started working in a coffee shop at 15, and have pretty much been an avid daily coffee drinker since I was 18. I know I should have marched back down there and had a word or two, but unfortunately I had already arrived 10 minutes late for work and didn't have time. Turns out my once bright sunny day, is not so fabulous after all.
While I am slightly amused by this turn of events, I'm also really irked. Seriously, just because I am pregnant it gives no one the right to pass judgement or inflict their opinions on me. Typically I can brush opinions right off my shoulder, but in this case I was a consumer, that paid money for what I wanted. I gave up coffee in first trimester, but in early 2nd trimester I had massive headaches daily, and my midwife recommended I have a cup of coffee every day. Unless you have a medical degree, you may not have a say in what I put into my body, and even if you do have a medical degree I still might not give a crap what your opinion is unless you are the medical professional I have chosen to pay for your opinion. And now, Starbucks on Adams and Wells, you have lost my business because thankfully I live in a highly populated city and there are tons of other coffee shops that I can visit and get my caffeine kick from.

That's horrible!!! I have also been enjoying their short coffee's and haven't run into that kind of judgment yet. Yikes!
Enjoy your daily coffee. I know I do (I sometimes sneak in a second 1/2 decaf 1/2 regular in the afternoon)
